Basic information about 5S


                    5S is a workplace organization method used to arrange the things in a work place for better efficiency in terms of time saving and effectiveness. It was developed first in japan which assisted just in time manufacturing. 


5S includes:
Seiri
Seiton
Seiso
Seiketsu
Shitsuke

Seiri:
  • it means sorting.
  • it separates the things in the workplace according to its priority.
  • it also separates the useful and not useful things in the workplace.
  • it prevents accumulation of of unnecessary items in the workplace.
  • it eliminates the obstacles while moving  in the workplace.
  • it helps in time saving by eliminating the time meant for searching the things required.
Seiton:
  • it means set in order.
  • it orders or arranges the things for easy access.
  • it arranges the things which are required according to the priority so that the the persons can easily access the things.
  • makes the workflow smooth.
Seiso:
  • It means sanitation.
  • Cleanliness makes the workplace more presentable.
  • it is also used to avoid accidents caused by wastes by removing the wastes in the workplace.
  •  it helps the workers to be fresh while working.
Seiketsu:
  • It means standardize.
  • the sorted things should be standardized for apt arranging.
  • the things should be placed in the right place.
  • every things in the workplace should be arranged according to some standard.
Shitsuke:
  • It means sustain.
  • the 5s should be implemented without being forced.
  • it should be self audited.
  • feedback should be recorded.
  • always be open to improve the 5s with some valuable suggestions from others.
  • the 5s practiced should not harm others in any cause.
In recent days one more S is added ie. Safety.
